Matala beach is located 65 km southwest of Heraklion and opens like an embrace to the Libyan Sea. The golden sand, the clear waters, and the mysterious rocks attract the visitor's interest. The village is prone to any commercialization and at every step there are souvenir shops, cafes, etc. Today Matala is trying to restore the image of the carelessness of the 60's for which it was famous and worth visiting. The beach is beautiful and has been maintained relatively well and is worth a detour here for a coffee and maybe a swim and then visit the also special beaches of Komos or Kalamaki. There are also campsites, restaurants, taverns.
